Why Celebrate The Start of Your Daughter’s First Period?
Every woman will have many special events throughout her
life but there are three major events that are all about being totally, wonderfully
female. The first big event is the start of a first period and the transition
from girl to woman. Next is the amazing creation of new life, motherhood and
finally as a woman says goodbye to her reproductive years, she transitions
yet again through menopause.
These stages are what define us as women. We may
be tempted to allow life to absorb and defuse their importance or we can
recognize and acknowledge them as special and do something, however small,
to mark them as our own.
During each of these transitions, we should be looking
for women whom we respect and trust and who are just a bit older than us
for guidance and support and in turn we should be willing to reach back and
pass on the support to those younger than us.
To help your daughter’s
transition have more meaning, we suggest that you allow her to take the lead
in deciding if or how she wants to celebrate. You can share celebration suggestions
with her and then allow her to make the final decision.
I have listed one of
my favorite celebration ideas below. See if you and your daughter can
come up with your own ideas. If you have already
purchased or are planning on purchasing one of our gift boxes, you will have
at your fingertips many wonderful suggestions to choose from as we include
celebration ideas in our “Parents Companion” that comes in each
box.
If you are a single father trying to figure out what to do
for your daughter. You can tailor any of these ideas to fit your life. Please
know that your contribution to this big event in your daughter’s life,
although different than a mother, is just as important and will be just as
memorable to her.
Celebration Ideas
- Ask the important women (or male family members) in your
daughter’s
life to create a quilt square for her. You could mail out a fabric square to
each woman (person) with an instruction sheet attached to an invitation to
attend a party at your house. You might even consider having a sleepover where
everyone gathers to sew the squares they’ve created together into a
warm and cozy quilt for your daughter.
